ColrShift does one thing — as a color converter and contrast checker it converts colors between HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK, checks WCAG AA and AAA contrast against black and white, and generates five harmony palettes. It converts every format through a common RGB representation, then computes the relative luminance of the two colors to get the WCAG contrast ratio you can compare against the 4.5:1 and 3:1 thresholds. What follows concerns only that tool and the inputs involved in it.

Everything the tool works with — the color values you type — is handled locally. It is usually reached for things like building a palette that stays legible, and because nothing is transmitted a visitor can close the tab knowing no copy was made anywhere.

Developer tools

Developer tools produce output you are expected to review. A type generated by ColrShift, a formatted document or a converted value should be checked against your own requirements before it is relied on in production.

Provided without warranty

For ColrShift specifically, the operative assumption is that your input fits the case the tool is built for. It converts every format through a common RGB representation, then computes the relative luminance of the two colors to get the WCAG contrast ratio you can compare against the 4.5:1 and 3:1 thresholds. Outside that — and wherever rounding, unit handling or browser behavior intrudes — the Site offers no warranty of any kind; we take care over the method, but the result is what it is.

Your responsibility
